David Hogg visits QU to talk activism

Gun control activist and 2018 Parkland high school shooting survivor David Hogg visited Quinnipiac to deliver a talk to students. I had the chance to attend the talk and also interview him directly in advance of the event. Read my brief Q&A here.

QuinniPeople: Quinnipiac IceCats team captain

For the Q30 TV segment “QuinniPeople,” we highlighted interesting and exceptional members of the student body. This edition focused on Tyra Nieuwendyk, the captain of the ice hockey cheer team, the IceCats, following the men’s ice hockey team’s first national championship win.

I served as both an Executive and Associate Producer at Quinnipiac University’s student-run news station, Q30, as an undergraduate student. During this time I created many packages covering everything from breaking news to unique human interest stories. I played a pivotal role in creating the rundown for our weekly live show including story ideation and determining the order of stories and also appeared live on air to deliver news.

QU hosts conference to mark one year of war in Ukraine

In February 2023, Quinnipiac’s Central European Institute held a conference to discuss the war in Ukraine after one year since Russia’s invasion, featuring many notable guest speakers including Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal, attorney and Honorary Consul of Romania to Connecticut, the Consul General of Poland and the Romanian ambassador to the UN. I spoke with some of them to learn how CT is assisting Ukrainian refugees in the wake of this war.

Quinnipiac administrator, professor and student reflect on Hispanic Heritage Month

To highlight the importance of Hispanic Heritage month and its significance to the Quinnipiac community, I spoke with VP of Equity and Inclusion Don Sawyer, professor of modern languages Luis Arata who is from Argentina and VP of the Latino Cultural Society Genesis Paulino, a student. Hartford Hospital invites QU students to learn about the university partnership

I visited Hartford Hospital to observe the new interactive simulation program that Quinnipiac students had the opportunity to use as part of the partnership between the hospital and university. I interviewed executives from both institutions, wrote an informative script, filmed b-roll and edited the package together, and I won third place for Video Storytelling at the annual Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists awards. Three law students elected to the NEBLSA executive board reflect on Justice Jackson’s confirmation

As former President Biden appointed the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court, three female Quinnipiac students were elected to serve on the National Black Law Students Association’s Northeastern chapter (NEBLSA). I spoke with two of the students on their achievement and the reaction to Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s appointment, and I also interviewed a Visiting law professor and former Connecticut Superior Court judge about the historical significance. Vice President for Equity and Inclusion to leave university

Quinnipiac’s former VP for Equity and Inclusion Don Sawyer left the university after 10 years to pursue a new role at nearby Fairfield University. Hamden Town Clerk reflects on 26 years in local government

Hamden’s long-serving town clerk stepped down after more than two decades holding the position, and throughout her tenure she made many advances to the office’s operations, made connections with the local government and even started beloved town traditions. Supreme Court reverses Roe v. Wade

Immediately following the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade, I wrote an article explaining what the decision meant to inform the Quinnipiac student body. I reviewed the opinion and outlined what it meant going forward and shared reactions from prominent government officials and the president. I also interviewed the director of Gender Studies at QU who explained how Connecticut would be affected, and president of Women Empowered on campus to highlight reactions of college-aged Americans. Sleeping Giant State Park sign spray-painted over with message: “Hobbomock; you are on native land”

Sleeping Giant State Park, across the street from Quinnipiac, is named after a Native American legend involving the giant Hobbomock. The park, which, like the university, is on historically native land belonging to the Quinnipiac tribe, and another nearby park were both scenes of political vandalism.
